Brain Tumour Broad
That’s me in the title, Brain Tumour Broad. And I only say that because I just learned that I have a brain tumour in my temporal lobe.
How did I learn that? On Wednesday night I got a really, really bad headache. As a result I was unable to really respond to questions my snookey asked me. I was unable to answer anything and because of that, he called an ambulance. The ambulance came and took me off to the hospital (siren blaring). And I don’t know if it was in the ambulance or in the hospital, but apparently I had a seizure of some sort and I didn’t come to until the next day at some point.
When I came to I was in the hospital (Toronto Western, never been there before) and I had stuff hooked into me everywhere… into my jugular, into my hand, into my arm veins on each arm and I also remember having something needled into my spine for some sort of MRI check. It was quite the check up I had and I’ve got bruises all over me that show just where I was probed and prodded.
Only after staying in the hospital for four days did I tell them I was leaving and going home when the doctor showed up to tell me what the next steps were.
Step 1 – I will be on medication – Dilantin – which stops seizures (also for Epileptics) but also seems to have the side effects of making you feel dizzy and drowsy.
Step 2 – My licence will be taken away. I watched as the good doctor filled out a form that said I could not be driving because I could be having a seizure. Even though I’ve only had one in my life, that they told me about, I have no proof of that, I am no longer able to drive my car (that I’m still paying for).
Step 3 – I’ve had to step down from some of the things I’ve been doing, for one, I’m no longer going to sit on the board I was sitting on, and I’m no longer going to keep up the second job I was working on, mostly because I’d have no way to get there other than TTC for those spots where the TTC goes, and I’m not about to take the TTC if I don’t have to.
Step 4 – My snookey will now be driving me to work in the morning and picking me up in the evening. That drives me crazy – probably bothers him too even though he’s said he’s going to do that, but I don’t see how it helps my retired snookey look for and grasp a job if he’s committed to driving me and picking me up. And I think we have to do it that way because it only takes half an hour. I have no idea how long it would take me to take public transit from where I live out to Markham where I work.
Step 5 – I have to quit drinking. Apparently I’m not supposed to drink while on this medication. And from the sound of it, it sounds like I forever have to take this medication – supposedly to get my licence back in 6 months, however, I don’t see how that is going to happen since this medicine makes me dizzy and drowsy.
So boys and girls, I’m not the happiest camper living here. I can’t believe I’ve got a brain tumour and I can’t believe how much it’s going to affect my life. I’m used to being fairly independent and I can’t believe I’ve got to rely on someone else to look after me now. I don’t like it. I might be more inclined to buy a gun and shoot that tumour in the head although I’ve read that one of the drug side effects could be suicidal tendencies. Sad to think about that coming up when I’ve already got it.
Pier 1 Great Customer Service
A couple of weeks ago I bought a new chair from Pier 1. It didn’t really fit with our decor, especially not our rug which was this old Persian rug that I got from my mother. Very expensive rug, I wanted to keep it, but after cleaning it so many times, and sending it out to Cleanol for the cleaning dip, it still didn’t look really clean.Anyway, that’s beside the point. So I bought a new rug to go with the new chair. And I like the new rug and I like the new chair.
However, when I bought the new chair, all they had left of it was the floor model, so that’s the one I took home. What I didn’t notice at the store was that there was a big crack on the front leg. I only noticed that when I put the chair into the living room.So I figured I’d go to Pier 1 and ask them for a replacement leg, but I’ve been busy, and I didn’t remember about the leg until again last night.
Tonight I stopped at Pier 1. I told them about the leg and asked if I could get another. They had gotten another chair like it into the store so we checked it out. Unfortunately, those legs don’t screw off. So she told me to bring in the other chair and I could take this one (since they didn’t have any others in stock).
I didn’t have my receipt with me, and I’ve just looked for the receipt and haven’t found it, but luckily for me, since I mentioned to the woman that I might not know where I put it, she said she’d vouch for me cuz she remembered me buying the chair.
So tomorrow I’ll lug my chair to work and on the way home will stop to get a replacement. And that’s what I call good customer service. So good that I looked around the store some more in case I wanted to buy something else, but luckily I saved my money (today). I know I’ll look around some more tomorrow, cuz that’s what I always do. I love the stuff at Pier 1.
UPS = Unprecedented Shit
I was supposed to get a delivery today… it was three things I’d ordered from Costco.
I was happy that I didn’t have to go pick this stuff up and that they actually have delivery, but then I ordered the stuff online, I don’t know if you can get delivery in the store.
Anyway, I was at work this morning, checking my email cuz I wasn’t too busy, and I saw that the delivery was scheduled for today. I thought, ‘holy crap’, cuz I didn’t know if my snookey was going to be home all day (or part of it even) and so I arranged with my boss to go home at 11:30 this morning and prayed that someone had been home if the delivery came already.
Well it hadn’t come, so I was lucky. I checked the UPS website to see if they had any time for delivery, and all I saw was that it would be delivered by the end of the day and that delivery times were up to 7:00 pm, but they could be late.
So I had an appointment tonight but my snookey was home and when I got home, UPS still hadn’t arrived, around 6:00 pm. I checked the website again and it said that one thing was still scheduled for delivery, but the two other things were in the UPS warehouse.
Huh? In the warehouse? Weren’t they scheduled for delivery by 7:00 pm? Didn’t I come home from work just so I’d be here when they got delivered?
So I called UPS. I talked with Elise to find out what that was all about and she told me that the two packages had been forgotten on the truck and so they’d be delivered tomorrow.
I told Elise that I had taken a day off work to be here. I told her that this had cost me a day’s pay and she said that she “guaranteed” that they’d be here tomorrow. I mentioned again that I had TAKEN THE DAY OFF WORK, and she, in effect was telling me that I should take the day off work again tomorrow for the delivery.
But she also said that if I wasn’t available tomorrow they could deliver it on Thursday or Friday. ‘What’s that, Elise… should I lose another day’s pay, if not tomorrow, but on Thursday? or on Friday?’ Yes, yes, she would guarantee that they’d be there. And after three attempts at delivery, if nobody was here to accept the packages, I could always go lugging off to the warehouse myself and pick the stuff up. I said, “didn’t I pay for delivery?”, and she once again guaranteed the delivery to me as soon as I arranged another day off work, because of course they can’t specify a time of day.
It was unbelievable. And you know what? Nobody forgot those packages on the truck. They didn’t want to carry them, cuz one is 90 lbs. and the other is 60 lbs. Nobody can forget packages that big, they just don’t want to carry them up 3 flights of stairs.
But she tells me the other package is still scheduled for delivery. It’s just after 7:00 pm now. But my good buddy, Elise tells me that I should just wait for it. Really, Elise? Should I be staying home all day AND all night to wait for the 1 lb. package? I wouldn’t want to have any plans with my life.
I am waiting. I’m waiting all night to see if Elise’s guarantee of my delivery comes true. At least a guarantee of one package.
I can’t believe the shitty fucking service you get with UPS – not to mention all the times I order things from the States and then have to pay an additional fee to UPS. Who knows a good courier? Next time I purchase online, I’ll make sure I don’t order from anywhere that uses UPS.
