Puke in English

I was thinking about the many variations we have for words in English, such as throwing up (I thought of this because I wasn’t feeling well yesterday – not that great today either). We have puke, vomit, hurl, throw up – those are the ones I can think of, feel free to give me more if you can think of them.

I just started wondering if they do this in other languages too… whether they have all kinds of slang words for one particular thing. Oh, that reminds me of the penis. Does it? Does it remind me of a penis? The word penis and all the euphemisms for that one; most of which I find quite amusing, although right now the only one I can think of is Johnson.

If you speak another language, please let me know whether you do the same stuff with your language as we do with ours. And if you just speak English, tell me some funny names for things that I may or may not know.

Sure we do!

I can’t think of too many for throwing up though… “Oksentaa” is the common one; there’s also “laatata” and “yrjötä” which are very slangy, and that’s about my puking vocab. There’s a Finnish male name “Yrjö” and the word (though in lowercase, naturally) is used for the result of the act of puking — poor guys who are named that.

In English I can think of also ‘barf’ and ‘spew’.

Yes! Good ones, Minna. I forgot about barf and spew!
