Moneris Review
Last year, for the jewellery shows I was doing, I decided I needed an Interac machine, you know, something that customers could use debit or credit cards with in order to buy my jewellery.
This little extravagance was costing me $86 a month, even though I only do these shows in the summer months.
I asked Moneris if they had a seasonal rate and they told me that for $5 a month I could keep my account going, but then when I wanted to get the machine back, I’d have to pay another $250 to get it (just like I’d paid up front to get the machine).
That seemed like a bigger pain than just keeping it all year, and having it if I ever needed it at other times, so I told them I’d keep it.
Last week I found out Moneris had cancelled my account. How did I find out? A courier showed up at my door to pick up the machine. My snookey was home but he didn’t hand it over, not knowing what was going on.
When I called Moneris, someone told me that my account had been cancelled because there weren’t enough transactions. Huh? Wasn’t I paying $86/month to rent this thing that I wasn’t going to use? Didn’t I spend a year of paying for this, and now, in September when I’m doing a show, I find out I don’t have a machine to use.
They gave me the name of Natasha? to call and find out how this could be remedied. Well, I called Natasha. Her phone always went directly to voicemail. And so I left message after message for a period of two weeks and Natasha never called me back.
In the meantime, I also called TD Merchant Services and arranged to have an Interac machine with them. They said it would be two weeks until I got it, which was fine as long as I had something for the upcoming show.
I also checked my bank account to make sure Moneris wasn’t taking out monthly fees again when they had cancelled my account.
Today I called Moneris to come pick up the machine again. I explained to 3 different people what had happened and was finally put through to a supervisor who informed me that Natasha always returns phone calls right away. Uh, no, she does not even return calls within two weeks, Ms. Supervisor.
They thought I wanted to reinstate and I told them to cancel it. Not too long after that, I got a call from Natasha. I asked her why, after all the messages I left, she had not returned my calls and she informed me that, “we do not return calls if they haven’t left their merchant number”. Oh ho, once again, I did not know the rules. I was supposed to leave my merchant number in order to get a phone call back.
I said, “well why didn’t you return my call and I would have given you my merchant number?” (you fucking twit – didn’t say that out loud). Then she talked to me about reinstatement and I told her to cancel the account and get the machine picked up.
Anyway, she told me they had cancelled my account because my bank account had been frozen. I told her that was crap because I had my account opened online in front of me and I could see that all $86 payments had gone through there every month. What horseshit. It still sounds to me like they weren’t making enough money off me with that measly $86 rental fee.
So that is cancelled, I will never be dealing with these incompetent boobs again. I hope TD Merchant Services comes through alright and that they’ve got a little bit more on the ball than Moneris – otherwise this year’s only show that I chose to do, will be cash only.

Moneris 24/7 is false advertising. They only have drones following script asking you if your Internet connection is enabled or if your PC is on.
They say your account is activated while it’s not.
I’m still waiting after 24 hours for a fatal issue on their side. I’ve lost 5 hours on the phone without any real feedback on my issue.
This place is a nightmare. I seriously advise to consider an alternative.
Shawn, you said “save 10-20,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH….” How? We not save money, but lost big. We’ve been told we’ll get “rewardme cheques” 250 dollars, for switch from other company to Moneris, within 4-6 weeks when we sign up. Now passed 9 weeks, nothing happened. Then we phoned them and left messages after messages. No return call. We all have had bad experience with Moneris. We know you work for them. Even though don’t cheating people anymore.
This place is a nightmare. I will never be dealing with these incompetent boobs again.
I was just talking to a Moneris representative on the phone today. I asked about interchange + pricing. And he must have thought I had heard to ask for interchange pricing but that I didn’t know much details about it. He tried to convince me that interchange pricing includes 1.65% base fee + 0.25% for rewards type cards + the interchange fee on top of that. When I asked him how much the interchange fees are he said they are usually between 0.3% and 0.7%. However on the Visa and Mastercard interchange fee schedule on their website it lists ecommerce fees around 1.55%.
After I brought it up a 2nd and 3rd time he attempted to play it off that other vendors also offer it and to ask them about it. Even tho I told him I’ve spoken to multiple merchant services and no one has ever mentioned this ‘base rate’. He answered the phone as Ravi. At the end when I asked him for his extension # and name he had changed it to ‘Ali’ after I asked to confirm it was Ravi. And also I asked him to send me a quote by email which was also not sent (no surprise).
If this type of behavior is being done by their sales people, it is no doubt structured that way from the top. These are unethical business people and everyone should be very wary and careful when dealing with these guys. And by being careful I mean look elsewhere for a merchant!

well you know that’s funny because I had a fine young gentlemen by the Name of gregor come into my business where we sell building materials, not only was he polite and professional but when i showed him my bill from TD merchant services he was able to show me more than a dozen hidden fees on my bill that were not clearly listed and showed me how moneris could save me a considerable amount of money. I signed the paper work a 2 weeks later they hooked me up… now i did have to pay a 300$ cancellation free with my previos merchant company buy now thanks to moneris I save 10-20,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH….
ALL THANKS TO MONERIS…. THANKS GREGOR
