Magnifying

magnifierburnThis is a picture of a microfiber cloth. I usually make my jewellery on top of this cloth – it prevents beads from rolling around. Not only that, but the microfiber cloths are not that easy to find. The one I had before this one was pretty small, not really big enough to lay out a whole bunch of beads, so I scored when I found this at Canadian Tire – something they were selling to wash or wax your car. Not quite as thick as a towel, but something very similar to it.

Anyway, this microfiber cloth now has some burns in it. How would it get burnt you ask?

magnifierHave a look at this little baby, right here. This is the lighted magnifier I use when doing close up work. It’s very strong, even a blind old bat like me can see what she’s doing.

Remember science? Remember being a kid with a magnifying glass? Do you happen to remember being outside with that magnifier and holding it under the sun, focused on something and trying to burn it?

Well, I remember doing that. Although I didn’t remember anything about it while my magnifier sits in the computer room, sun streaming through the window, and, somehow hitting that magnifier just right in order to burn my microfiber cloth.

magnifiermessageAnd you know what else I never noticed? The message glued right to my magnifier that says, specifically, “Keep Magnifier Away From Direct Sunlight When Not In Use”. Hmmm. I guess I should have noticed that. And I guess I’d better start paying attention to the position I leave that magnifier in when I leave my desk.

I guess I’m pretty damned lucky we didn’t set the place on fire. Nobody was home. Outside sun, through two panes of glass, into the room…. bzzzzzt, fried. I bet my insurance wouldn’t cover it if there was a fire.

That’s a pretty tripy story

Good thing everything worked out though. Even if your insurance somehow managed to cover your expenses, I’m sure they would jack up your rates to make up for it.

Wow! Look at all the beads! My mom would think she’d died and went to heaven! She is forever sending me links to necklaces, earrings and bracelets that she is going to make me. I love her hand made stuff.

Thanks for the heads up – my mom has a magnifier just like that, I bet she’s never thoguht about where she stores it.

PS – what was the name of the cloth? That sounds like a great gift for her!

I’ll stick with the hypotheses that the magnifier was smoking! ;-)

Janice, if she goes to Canadian Tire and sees a light blue microfiber cloth/towel, that’ll be it – it had a picture of a car for waxing or washing, who remembers?
