I Suppose I Should be Happy
Finally finished my taxes today. We started last weekend but I was missing some information that I had to get from work, so I printed that out and brought it over to “the accountant” today.
Last week he had me owing $1500. Why? Is it because I make so damned much money? Of course it is. I’m a kajillionaire, don’t cha know.
Actually the issue was the damned profit sharing at work. They don’t take any taxes off it. So while I pocketed a nice, tidy, little sum, they tax you up the nose on that.
So after a bit of manoeuvering and kajoling the paperwork, he got it down to $530 that I have to pay. *phew* I can afford $530 a helluva lot more than I can afford $1500, regardless of the bags and bags of money that I make.
So I guess, in a way, I’m happy. What would make me happier is if I actually got money back. Novel idea. My accountant suggests that I tell HR to take an additional $50 a pay off my paycheques.
He may be right that I should do that. After all, who’s gonna notice $50 off a pay – except that I’m also not noticing the other $50 off my pay that I transfer to my savings account, and the money that I pledged to United Way, and the money they take for this useless, effing benefits plan we have which I pay through the teeth for to have a whopping $2500 coverage per year.
Anyway, enough of that. I should be happy. And after about 6 more beers, I plan to be just that.
