Marianne Faithfull – Brain Drain
Just because BFG mentioned her, and I own the record, I thought I’d rip that one next.
I bought this record when I was about 23, I think. When I first heard the songs on the radio, I thought it was a guy singing, and I thought it was really weird that it was a guy named ‘Marianne’.
And because she had such a weird voice (supposedly resulting from years of cocaine and heroine abuse), I bought her album.
She had a couple of hits off the Broken English album… one being Broken English, and The Ballad of Lucy Jordan, but I’ve decided not to put either of those up here for your listening enjoyment. I’ve put a lesser-known song… Brain Drain – because I still like the jazzy feel of it.

OK OK so you hear of her, and you have the record, sheesh. I’ll have to pick on someone else then like, lets see Anika Moa, how about her????
Thats not likely though as she is a kiwi and about 28 or something, just a kid.
I like PJ Harvey, a nice clean Canadian Girl
My wife used to be in Greenpeace, and one of the guys who jumped off rubber boats into the way of errant whaling ships and the like was a Drummer with PJ Harvey, drank beers with us a few times. Thats as close as I’ve been to that girl, apart from buying her cds.
