American Gangster
I kept seeing commercials for this one although I don’t remember hearing about it before that. Supposedly this is based on a true story.
You’ve got two big stars… Russell Crowe, the good cop, and Denzel Washington, the heroin smuggling bad guy.
It’s a chase the bad guy movie and that’s all. Nothing outstanding about it, I didn’t even find Denzel too believable in the black mafioso role.
The only parts I really liked were when Denzel was threatened or part of a shake down and instead of paying up or doing whatever he was supposed to do, he’d just go explode a guy’s car. He didn’t seem to be threatened in the least and he’d extract his revenge for anyone that tried to threaten him, even if it meant shooting someone in the head in the middle of the sidewalk. Who wouldn’t want to be able to do that to someone who pissed you off? Ok, perhaps I have teeny anger issues.
Russell is a cop who gave back a million bucks in unmarked bills when he found it. For that the other cops think he’s an asshole, holier than thou type and don’t like him.
I can’t think of anything really memorable about this film. I dozed off a couple of times and woke to nothing new.
Rent it if you want, maybe you’ll find it more interesting than I did.

So basically the movie is as interesting as the commercials and the various trailers that I saw. And now you’ve pretty much confirmed my suspicions, the movie is bland and boring.
