Nothing so Great

We had the Thanksgiving dinner. I made turkey after all but that’s only because I couldn’t find a pork loin over at pricey Loblaws so I opted for a fresh turkey. I’d never had a fresh turkey, only frozen. Someone told me that the taste was really fabulous but I couldn’t tell any difference. The turkey was fine.

Because I was so lazy this year and because I had two bags of Stuff ‘n Such left from my gigantic Costco purchase, I decided to use up the Stuff ‘n Such and forget about making my own homemade, absolutely fabulous, delicious stuffing. Once again, nothing too special about that, but I never knew that you could put that stuff in the turkey to cook, so I learned something new.

I didn’t buy any turnip like we usually had, so we had one less vegetable at dinner, which I guess was alright since we had garlic mashed potatoes and honey carrots that my son makes. We also had those little mini croissants. I love those things. They’re so soft and you can just slather them with butter. I love butter. And those mini croissants can almost pop right into your mouth. I try to be a bit couth and take two bites.

Worst thing about the dinner was that I forgot to make the gravy. I was gonna be lazy again and bought some gravy mix. I’m not the best gravy maker, my mother used to do that but since her brain is gravy itself, no one ever passed down the secret.

So I bought 4 gravy packets and didn’t even think about them until we were actually seated at the table, serving up our food. We had Thanksgiving dinner with no gravy! Gravy is tied for first place with good stuffing in my book.

We topped things off with this strange kind of pumpkin pie. It had a skin on top. I’ve never had that before but when you put a shitload of whipped cream on it, you can’t even see it.

All in all the dinner was “ok”. I’ve made better but it was edible and slightly flavourful so I won’t complain (any more than I already have).

My son was here, my daughter and my snookey, and afterwards we played some Pictionary. I haven’t played that in a long, long time, and I’m pretty damned good at it. My daughter didn’t do too badly either, now that she’s older and has an idea of things to draw for clues.

After that we played 99 for pennies. I kept losing, so what else is new.

And that, boys and girls, was my holiday weekend.

Tonight I’ve just dyed my daughter’s hair brown so we can wipe that orangey look out of the top of her hair with the big black roots growing out. Don’t need that welfare trailer park look over here. This, I told her, was the last time for dying her hair so she better not sneak off and do some stupid crap with her hair again. If she keeps that up her hair will look like straw in no time.

How was your Thanksgiving, anyway? Any good stories, fist fights or catty melees to tell me all about? Don’t by shy. Auntie Jafer wants to help.
