The Professionals
I got a bit of a sleep in today, went to bed around 1:00 and slept til about 9:15 *woohoo*. I did wake up a bunch of times. For some reason the air conditioner kept cycling off and on and by the time I got up it had probably popped the breaker cuz it was off. Nevertheless, with all the waking I did, I slept in, even though I didn’t feel like I could fall back asleep.
And I was a good girl, after being up for a bit I went over to the home to visit with my mother. At least she wasn’t sleeping through the whole visit this time. But the conversation always leaves a little to be desired when there is some. I got to hear about how her sister, Helen, spent most of her life in a wheelchair. Let me tell you, her sister Helen is old and still doesn’t need a wheelchair, so who knows WrTF my mother’s brain is.
I ate my lunch out at the food court at Centrepointe – I went to the Caribbean something and had curried chicken with noodles and vegetables. I couldn’t even finish half of it but at least I finally ate.
And then later on my snookey and I headed off to Dairy Queen where I had a pineapple sundae. I should have had the strawberry one that I usually have because the pineapple had very little taste.
While we were in that plaza, I found another nail place. I walked in, asked if I needed an appointment and how much would it be for a pedicure, and they told me they could do me right now, the pedicure would be $25. I went for it. The reason I went for it? I didn’t tell you what happened the other day….
I stopped in this nail place by my home where, painted on the window, it says “Walk-Ins Welcome”. I figured I’d see how much for a pedicure and knew that it would probably be cheaper than Bayview Village (remember my spa day?).
This philippino woman was already doing a pedicure to an older black woman. I asked how much for a pedicure and she said $25. She said, “do you have an appointment?” and I said, “no”. She said, “well, we are professionals here, you have to have an appointment”, and I said, “well, the sign on the window says walk-ins welcome“.
She went on and on about something, most of which I couldn’t understand, other than it sounded like she was saying something about 3 staff coming in. So I asked when her other 3 staff came in and she gave me this look. This really over-dramatic, incredulous, I must be an idiot look, while saying, “what? what are you talking about?”
So, of course, I gave her the look back and kept looking at her that way until it wiped the look of her face, and then I said, “your other staff… when do your other staff come in?” This whole time I knew I wouldn’t be getting a pedicure here and wouldn’t want to with the attitude of this woman but I kept persisting anyway.
Then the black woman got involved and said, “no she doesn’t have any other staff, it’s just her”. The philippino woman kept yammering some more and one of her final sentences was, “you should go find somewhere else”, and I said, “oh yes, I’ll go somewhere else alright, and you should take down that sign that says walk-ins welcome”.
So you see why, when I saw the pedicure place today that said they could do me right then, I had to go for it, even though I’d just done my own nails two nights ago.
And this place had four people getting a pedicure right then, seemed to be “professional” and yet took walk-ins. For the first time ever, I had a guy doing the pedicure. I didn’t know that any guys got into that. He was pretty good too. The only problem I had with the place was that they didn’t put any cream on your feet at the end of it – like Bayview Village Spa. So I asked them for some and they brushed something on me.
Tonight we’ve rented The Contract with Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. I keep having the feeling I’ve rented it before, so I hope not – even though I probably wouldn’t remember it anyway.
