Always Something

Remember how I ordered the plug for my Acer 1913 monitor off eBay? Well today I got an email saying that the guy had refunded my money because the option I chose had $9.95 shipping but that was only to the U.S.

Turns out that shipping to Canada was going to be $20.55 so I said forget it. I sent the guy a message saying to void that little change in contract and instead I called Acer Canada.

Well doncha know that Acer Canada connects to a U.S. support line and I had to order the product from the U.S. again. WyTF do they have a Canadian site hooked up with stuff you can only get in the U.S.?

It’s gonna cost me about the same amount of money but I’ll feel a little better knowing that it came from a ‘reputable’ source and they said it only takes 3-5 business days for shipping.

With my luck, you know it won’t be only 3 business days. And since it’s a holiday Monday in the U.S. too, that lets out the first part of the week. Maybe I’ll have it by next Friday.

In the meantime I had thought I might forget about it all and just go buy another monitor, so I headed off to Tiger Direct after work – they are just up the street from my work. They had a special with a 19″ monitor (not widescreen, I don’t want widescreen) for $149 counting a $20 rebate. But guess who had none left when we got to the store? So it was back to the cord for me.

Tonight’s Thursday and I’m really happy about it. I’ll watch Earl and The Office and 30 Rock and Scrubs ← maybe, and revel in my long, long weekend. Let’s just hope the weather is not as putridly hot as my computer room is, even though it was cold outside all day. They sucked me into wearing a tank top and a skirt to work today and left me thinking that I might sneak out at lunch to buy a sweater. I didn’t. I needed my money for my monitor cord.

I know it will take a little effort and time, but could you post a picture of the cable from the other Acer.

I want to know what the part that connects into the monitor looks like.

Because if it’s a basic three prong connector, I think you could use any cable. Probably be able to pick up one from Radio Shack (Whatever their calling themselves these days) or maybe Canada Computers or Factory Direct.

If you already thought of this, sorry for mentioning it then. Who knew one little cable could be so much of a hassle?

Lyndon, I’ve put up the picture but I’ll tell you it’s not the regular kind of adapter, it’s specifically for the AL1913, and I’ve looked everywhere else to get it, including Factory Direct (who, BTW, sell the monitor).

This was my only option (other than the guy on eBay) so I’m stuck with it. But I figure I’d rather pay under $50 than $150 to $250 for another monitor.

Watch now, I’ll get the stupid plug and the monitor will be kaput or something.

Haven’t seen one like that before. My only other suggestion is to try Pacific Mall. It has a bunch of electronic and computer stores in there.

Just try not to kill the snooty counter help, who take forever to get to you.

The only other option is to go back to the Ebay guy, although I think he’s over charging for shipping!

Oh and you can check Staples website, they had a 19″ Acer for 97 bucks last week in the clearance section. You might still be able to find something for a good price.

See this site for a deal and they sell to Canada to.

BFG, I saw my adapter there – for $28.95, which is roughly what the eBay guy was selling for. So I don’t know if shipping would have also cost $20 from the laptop site, but I’ve ordered the thing now for $40.15 from Acer and I’m just hoping there are no customs charges (like $20 which will put me over the top from the original eBay guy).

If there are no customs charges, I’ve saved myself $10. Otherwise, I’ll be about the same as the eBay guy (and perhaps the laptop place).

However, that’s a good site you sent. I’m going to keep it in my favourites for whenever those pesky accessories/ cords/ whatever are needed.

And thanks, Lyndon, for your tips. I’d never even heard of the Pacific Mall, but if they’re big in electronics, I’m likely to check it out.
