Number 23

We thought we’d be wild and crazy and rent a movie on a Friday night. And, if I remembered correctly, this was gonna be a spooky one; a spooky one with Jim Carrey. I was up for the challenge.

It’s about a guy (Jim Carrey) who ends up seeing a correlation in everything with the number 23 ← you guessed it! For example, perhaps his name has 23 letters. His birthday is February 3rd (month 2 day 3). Everywhere he looks he finds that the number 23 is involved in some way, and even where it isn’t, he can make it so by perhaps finding the number 92 and dividing it by 4.

What spurred this obsession with the number 23 was a fateful finding by his wife of a book all about the number 23. This self-published book was written by a killer, and our hero keeps relating to the book as if it was about his own life story.

Guess who becomes detective and goes searching for the author… the author, Topsy Krettz (also pronounced, Top Secrets).

I won’t tell you how it ends other than it did not come as a big surprise. Jim Carrey was pretty good as an obsessive, off-side psychotic but then I’ve always preferred him in more serious roles – anything but crap like The Mask or Ace Ventura.

It’s not all that spooky, like I expected, but it was watchable… a little suspense.
