Volunteering

I had one great day, let me tell ya. I was a volunteer for this program at work where you go into schools and do a presentation to the kids. I had originally volunteered because I wanted to go and do it in my daughter’s class but I found out that her school had already had it done so I had to go to a different school. I won’t say the name of the program so nobody can find it here on my site accidentally.

It was fun going through the stuff with the kids. They were bright kids. Well, there were a couple of special ed kids and a few ESL kids who were having difficulty picking up on what was being said, but other than that, the kids were very bright and it was fun to see them working away almost as if they were adults.

They took responsibility and grasped right away what I had told them to do. They worked on things and kept working them out til they got the answers they were supposed to get. I loved it. I suppose I should have become a teacher after all. That was what I had thought I’d do earlier in my life, but then I figured I didn’t have the patience for kids, so I didn’t.

Anyway, I suppose I’ll volunteer for this every year if I have the chance. I think the kids learned something out of the day and I got to practice public speaking – I wasn’t even nervous after the first part of the morning, maybe because they were kids.

Bravo for me. And bravo for the kids. Oh, and let us not forget that the day ended at 2:30 *woohoo*.

Wow a teacher no less. Good for you, its so cool to have instant feedback from the kids, you know right away if they get it or not.
