Identity

IdentityHas anyone seen this new show, “Identity”? I’ve seen it a couple of times now; it’s hosted by the big guy from Penn & Teller – Penn.

It’s a show where they give you a bunch of different job titles or something other, like “Donated a kidney”, and you’re supposed to guess by looking at them, who does what.

Now they don’t have the people try to trick you. They don’t have someone dressed up in a doctor’s outfit if they’re not a doctor. It’s just the opposite, if the person’s a nurse, they’ll have them dressed in a nurse’s uniform.

The only hard thing about the show is that you don’t know what a ‘kidney donator’ would look like and so that’s the only difficult thing about it.

This reminded me of those other shows that have come on TV, like Deal or No Deal, and Show Me the Money, and there’s another one I can’t remember the name of.

So why is it that game shows are getting easier? Whatever happened to challenging yourself with games like Jeopardy? Games that actually take a little bit of working the brain?

It seems to me that while people are getting more and more educated (e.g., Masters degree and working at The Keg as a waitress), these game shows are getting easier and easier. (And, yes, I took this picture with my new Lumix camera.)

I think it all boils down to the producers of said shows pandering to the masses who watch them religiously (and aren’t quite the same market group that watches Jeopardy), but still like the intrigue of some sort of competition nonetheless, and also purchase the pudding pops advertised between the mundane segments of said feature presentation. After all, it is Penn Teller.

I believe, as far as TV watchers go, this type of audience makes up a larger market – and this is why you see TV programming like that which you described. Personally, I stopped (seriously) watching TV years ago.

I guess, worlds fastest man.

Well, Mark, I know what you mean. We stopped watching TV totally about 8(?) years ago. Then we spent every waking moment on the computers. After years of that, we then realized we had to stop spending every waking moment on the computers and tried to get back into TV but we weren’t used to it, didn’t know what the shows were.

Now we make this concerted effort to find TV shows to watch (and really we pretty much only like Earl, The Office, Boston Legal and Judge Judy). So four TV shows a week doesn’t kill a lot of time. I’m happy to hear that The Apprentice is coming back January 7th and, of course, American Idol will be starting again too. If we can find a show a night we’d be happy.

It’s one reason I’m always asking people what’s on TV. I’m hoping that someone will say, “Monday! Why, on Monday there’s ……, it’s fabulous, you gotta watch it!” We keep trying, but not finding much (and paying over $100 a month on the stinking cable bill).

And, BFG, she got right the World’s Fastest Man. She was down to the last 2 people before she took the money and ran.
