Good and Bad

The good news is that my boss has agreed to me taking off a month from work (2 weeks vacation and 2 weeks unpaid leave). The bad news is that I’m going to be working all through my vacation, somewhere else. The good news is that I’ll get paid twice for the first 2 weeks (vacation pay and other company pay) and paid once for the other two weeks, so I’ll be up two weeks’ pay.

So there’s more good news here than bad news, other than the fact that I won’t qualify for any vacation, and so there’ll be no relaxing trips to the Caribbean pour moi.

Such is life. I need the stinking money is the problem just to get my bank account out of overdraft. Let’s hope the rent and loan and insurance payments all manage to go through regardless. It’s all a matter of lucky timing – we’ll see how lucky I am.

Right now the computer guy’s on his way over. For some reason our network is not seeing anybody, and that’s no good if I want to do that multiplayer gaming with my honey now, is it?

I’m so tired from working late I forgot all about it, but time for company. I guess it’s a good thing people can come into my house and aren’t overly stunned by seeing me in a robe with a beer hanging out of my mouth.

Tonight is that new show, Ugly Betty. I’m gonna tape it in case it’s any good. Unfortunately it’s on at the same time as Earl and then The Office. I couldn’t possibly miss The Office for anything… it’s my reason for living.

I have lots to talk about it’s just that my brain is kinda dead right now. About all I can do in the “think” mode is think about relaxing in front of the TV. So that’s what I’m gonna do. You can do that too. Go on, it’s good for you. Couple it with a beer or 5 and you’ll sleep like a baby.

You’re talking about the American Office, right? It started here a couple of weeks ago, and I think I managed to watch about half of the first episode. After that I watched only short glimpses and now I’ve forgotten all about it. I think it could be watchable if it didn’t have that annoying boss played by Steve Carell. I hope the character is written to be so infuriating and not the actor making the character an a**. If you say it’ll get better after a few episodes, I might try and watch it again.

I suppose the British version would be better (they always are), but unfortunately they showed it in digital TV years ago when I didn’t have a digital receiver. They might rerun it, though…

Minna, that’s precisely why it’s so good… because the boss is such an asshole – he plays that character perfectly. And there are so many others there that you love to hate – only about 2 people on the show that you don’t mind. Half the time we watch it, we’re sitting there saying, “fuuuuuck, what an asshole!” I wouldn’t miss it.

And the British version? Hated it. I didn’t find them quite as despicable as the American people.

Ah, ok. That’s probably why I haven’t found myself drawn to the show — I don’t like characters I’d love to hate. Everytime there’s an unbearably annoying character in a show I’d like to wring their neck and the whole show/episode is ruined. (The annoyance factor must be sky high, I’m not that sensitive. :) )
