King Kong
You have never heard me say this about a movie (ok, maybe there were one or two), but this movie was fabulous!
I didn’t even get to see this on the big screen, where I’m sure it would have been 5 times better, but even renting, this was a great movie.
We all know the story… the love story, that is… big ape in love with blonde, blonde loves big ape back (no, no, get your mind out of the gutter, size does matter here).
I’ve seen the previous version of this movie and I was in tears, even though the previous version was kinda cheesy.
The effects were great. King Kong was actually the most realistic looking version of a giant gorilla that I’ve seen – he didn’t look like a puppet, or a graphic effect, or even someone dressed up in a monkey suit. And so did the dinosaurs look real too.
I was fairly mesmerized during the movie, even during the slow beginning. Jack Black played his role well. Naomi Watts wasn’t overly ‘hammy’ and is a damned fine looking woman and not as ditzy-seeming as Jessica Lange in KK2.
This version did not have me in tears, however, and I wondered why not since I cry at every little thing. That was my only disappointment – that the ending was not quite as emotional as I think they should have made it. Now I want to rent the first and second versions.
I think you’ll enjoy this movie, and it’s got my highest rating ever (even though that only goes up to 5 – it’s 5 with kudos). Go rent it. I’m also going to buy it for my collection.
