Grandson
I had a little visit today. It wasn’t planned, it just happened.
It was my grandson. I got a call from my son’s ex, saying that they were in Toronto and they thought that we might like to see him.
I haven’t seen him for at least a year, so it was very nice to see him again. What a sweet boy he is. He’s now 6 years old and in grade 1.
He does have one habit, though. While he always says please and thank you, he has a way of putting things that makes you feel a bit like his servant.
For example, when we got home from taking his remote car out for a drive in the school parking lot, he said to me, “I’d like a drink, please”. I felt like, “ok, so go get a drink”. And not having six-year-old kids around any more, it didn’t automatically kick in that I was supposed to jump up and get him something. But I guess some motherly instinct kicked in where, when he snapped his fingers, I jumped up and got him some milk. It’s funny how things change (and don’t change) over time.
It was good to see him. I hope that my son will soon be able to go pick him up to bring him for weekend visits when my daughter’s here. He kept mentioning her and the fun they had on the last visit.
However, my daughter, the busy party animal had a party to go to today, or else I would have gone and picked her up so she could see him too. My girl, you missed out. Let’s hope that he’s here again sooner than the last time… no years in between.
