The Constant Gardener
We didn’t rent a movie last night. I bought this one cuz my Columbia House DVD Club had a sale going on where you buy one and get two at half price. So I bought The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, and The Constant Gardener (cuz I couldn’t think of any other one to get).
I didn’t know what this one was about, but I did know that it had won an (some?) award(s), so I figured I’d buy it.
We watched it last night and at first I thought it was gonna be a chick flick, although who ever heard of a chick flick winning an award?
The description of the movie is: “A widower is determined to get to the bottom of a potentially explosive secret involving his wife’s murder, big business, and corporate corruption”.
The thing is… “explosive secret”. As in all movies like this, I never find the secret to be that explosive. Maybe I’m just jaded, but I always feel like, “so what? they’re running around killing everybody about this? they’ll still make millions of dollars, regardless”.
Anyway, it was a pretty good movie. I thought that Ralph Fiennes’ character was the perfect English gentlemen, subdued, diplomatic, and realistic.
This was the type of movie that you used to see Harrison Ford in, except with less over-acting and gunfire. I’d recommend it if you have lots of time. It seemed really long (although interesting).

You know – I really enjoyed that movie. We watched it a couple of weeks ago (rented it though). I had a feeling that this movie might have been based on actual events – but then again, I could be wrong…
