I Went Out Today

Wonder of wonders, the recluse leaves the house.

Today I had an appointment again with that laser person (to get that stupid spot off my nose) since the last time she did it, absolutely nothing happened.

So I expected to go today for a freebie and have her try it again. Now I don’t know whether she was planning to do it for free or not, I was just not expecting to pay for it since I’ve already coughed up $250 and nothing is different.

So when it came time to leave, I did the quick exit, explaining to the receptionist that this was a follow-up visit and hoping no money would be charged, and it wasn’t. But I hope I’m not going to hear from them in the near future about my “outstanding” bill.

Spots on my face. Picture is really blurry cuz my honey doesn't know how to use my digital cameraToday’s treatment may have worked. The spot on my nose is now a big PURPLE spot, which they tell me is what happens when it works – the spot goes purple and then disappears in a few days. I wasn’t really aware that I had another spot to the side of my nose, but she did that one too. Hopefully that’s what will happen with me and I will not be wearing this sporty new purple spot for the rest of my days.

Before that we met with Emmett for lunch. We went to The Metropolitan where we all had some spicy sausage penne which wasn’t too damned shabby. Lunch was $60 though… a helluva lot of money for some macaroni.

While we were downtown I decided to stop at the credit union since my bank card for them is cracked. I figured I’d also address the name change issue since I changed my name two years ago and they still had my old name on the account.

Well I ended up asking this young black woman for the new card. She told me that I’d need two pieces of ID and I told her that was fine, but that my ID was all in my new name, and that I’d faxed documents to them two years ago, indicating the name change.

She didn’t have the documents. And she didn’t think she could change the name on the account. I told her that it had to be valid, since my driver’s license name was changed and that I’d had to provide them with my birth certificate and name change documents.

She went to check with the manager. She came back and told me she couldn’t do it. We had more conversation and then she had to go talk to the manager again.

By this point I was thinking that this was taking way too long, and I was going to tell her to forget about the name change and just give me a new card to replace my cracked one when she came back and said that they couldn’t change anything.

She asked whether I’d changed my name because I got married or just changed my name. WTF is any point in that I don’t know, but I told her that I’d just CHANGED MY NAME.

She said that they couldn’t make any changes, and I said, “fine, just give me a new card”. She said she couldn’t give me a new card either. She pulled out a document from 2000 and said, “see you signed your name XXX here, when was it that you changed your name?”

At this point I was a little mad and I said, “do you speak English?” “I told you that I changed my name 2 years ago, that document is back in 2000!”

She wasn’t too happy with that. She told me that she didn’t have to “take this abuse”. I said, “what abuse is that? Asking you if you speak English? What about changing my name TWO years ago, didn’t you understand?”.

She told me she didn’t have to take that and I could leave. I stood up and went over to her and said, “no, I’m not leaving and I’m not abusing you. I want a new card”.

She told me to get out of her face or she’d call her supervisor. She then started insulting me (can’t remember the exact words cuz I was getting mad) and I said, “oh, is this the way you’re supposed to speak to customers? Because I am a customer and I will not stand being talked to this way”.

I said, “where is your supervisor? I want to talk to your supervisor” and started to walk over to the office that she’d gone to before. She started following behind me saying something else, when I said “I’ll talk to the manager, asswipe”.

So I called her an asswipe. Not the politest I’ve ever been, but WTF, I was getting really mad at all this crap just so I could replace my cracked bank card.

Then the girl, walking beside me said, “yes, I’m a nigger and I’m proud of it”. She said again, “I’m a nigger and I’m proud to be a nigger”.

I said, “I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, but I didn’t call you a nigger, I called you an asswipe. Maybe you’re a racist, but I’m not”.

Then she snuck into the manager’s office ahead of me, saying loudly, “she called me a nigger” and I said, “no, I didn’t call her a nigger, I called her an asswipe”, “and the only reason I’m here is to get a new card because my old was is cracked”. “I faxed you my name change documents two years ago, and you still send my bank statements under my old name”.

The girl hung around the office for a bit while two managers were asking what was going on, and then proceeded to ‘calm me’ by explaining that this was all for my protection, so there was no chance of fraud, where I asked them for their fax number and said I would refax my name change documents.

The one manager (or supervisor, whatever the hell she was) took me to another office to get me a card with the fax number on it. At that point I told her that I didn’t appreciate her staff saying that I’d called her a nigger when I’d called her an asswipe. The manager said, “I know, I’ll be speaking with her”.

And we left it at that. She told me where there was another credit union location closer to where I live, in case I wanted to drop in there to get the new card, and gave me the card with the fax number. Then I left.

Perhaps things would have been a little calmer if the young black woman had said to me, “I’m sorry, we never received your name change documents. If you could fax them to us again, we could change the name on your account and give you a new card”.

I don’t think there would have been half as much freaking today if things had gone like that.

But our lunch was very tasty at The Metropolitan (and it damned well should have been for that money).
