No Read Blogs

I recently joined Blog Explosion based on Cosmogrrl’s recommendation. And I am liking it. There’s lots of sites for me to surf – other members.

But I gotta tell ya, I have found a shitload of religious sites out there. It surprised me a lot. I knew there was lots of political crap, but who knew so many people were “blogging for Jesus”.

I leave those sites pretty soon. I figure if they’re fanatical enough to be putting Jesus freak stuff up on their site, they probably won’t be talking about anything I’m interested in.

That got me thinking to the ‘good ol’ days’ when the meaning of blog was “web log”, which is a log on the web, and a log is a journal as in “Captain’s Log, stardate 15/04/3005″.

When I surf sites, I’m expecting to see someone’s journal and what’s going on in their lives, interesting or not. So maybe that’s why I get pissed off to see all these blogs with a cause, cuz it’s not what I want to see.

I decided to try to list the types of blogs I would NOT visit (purposely) or would click out of as soon as possible, and they are as follows:

  1. Anything Jesus-freaky in the top part of the page. They might fool me by not mentioning our sacred Lord, Jesus Christ within their first posts, only for me to find the flashing Jesus on a cross gif later on in their page, after I’ve started reading to see if it’s an interesting site.
  2. Any kind of political crap, and I don’t care about whom, anyone at all. And if there’s a big Get Rid of Bush banner instead of the Stop Poverty banner on the top corner of their page, I’m outta there without reading anything else.
  3. Black backgrounds or dark blue, or any other really hard to read coloured pages. Sometimes the sites fool me cuz they’re not black, and I start reading, only to find my eyes hurting me after a couple of minutes.
  4. Sites where the font is too BIG. Yes, this amazed me that a too-big font was difficult to read, but I came across it, and it is. Same goes for sites with the too SMALL font. My surfing is for fun and enjoyment, not to make my life difficult and have to put on my reading glasses.
  5. Sites where everything is centred. They just bring to my attention that the person has no concept of web design, and that just makes me think that they shouldn’t have a website, no matter whether everyone else is ‘doing’ it.
  6. Non-domain websites like blogger and blogspot and whatever else that you get for free. Again, I figure if you can’t afford your own site, why the hell are you on the net? There are a few that I will read, so this one is not written in stone, but they have to be pretty damned interesting or really creatively designed for me to go back.

So there you have it… another rant by the queen of rants. Ok, I’m probably not the queen, I just carry myself like royalty, you know… stooped and frumpy and ugly and elitist.

LOL! I’ll drink to that:!:! I am a bloger who had rather be free! Why would you want to pay someone to list your thoughts?

Well I don’t think I fit anything on that list other than maybe the too colorful blog.

Colourful’s ok… it’s the hard to read colours that suck.

LMAO … you have a lot of rules, but they are funny. I am actually a pro web designer with my own server, but the blog I am linking from is a free blogger one, because I like to keep the stonemonkey45 alter ego away from my real life. So in a way your right I don’t want my rubbish blog to cost me anything LOL.

If anyone starts reading it I may, design a template and move it to my own server and a better blogging tool…

 See now that was not bad! Thanks for coming by! I may judt tru you high score aproch! I would have won this week!

*makes note* uncenter frontpage, change black background, change ‘get rid of bush’ stickynote….

Free is good, cause I’m cheap, I started on a ‘free’ site actually a ‘donations accepted’ site, then moved to a “charity” site until the dear Lizard could not pay her bills, then had to actually shell out plastic money into the cyberspace vacuum to get own domain, and pay for hosting.

And I’m too friggin lazy to make my own templates and still, I just wana moan and complain, and generally carry on in the easiest way possible.

All this web page designing stuff gets in the way of eating CAKE.

Mmmm Cake.

Yeah, I can understand those rules. Except for the last one. There are plenty good blogs on blogspot and I can understand why people use them. It’s just easy and when you don’t care too much about doing all the set-up, it’s a great way to tell the world what you have been up to.

Looks like I am not breaking any rules… :P

Let me know if there’s something wonky with my blog :) As for number 4, you did know that browsers provide zoom in and out, didn’t you?

Minna, that CTRL-scroll wheel will only work if they’ve got their fonts set up properly for that, otherwise, nada.

Oh yeah, I forgot… you use IE

No, I use Avant, which has an IE base, but gives much more than IE and Firefox put together.

I do have Firefox too, but I don’t use it much since it doesn’t have Avant’s features. I’ll check my site with it though to make sure it’s compatible in both browsers, but that’s about all I find it good for.

 Mozilla! Mozilla!

Grhm… Anyway, I should probably make my site’s font sizes relative, but… I think I’ve had that before (like 100% or medium) but in IE they’re HUGE and in Mozilla type browsers they’re nice. Or something to that horrendous effect.
