Goodbye, Gilligan
Yesterday, at age 70, Bob Denver died from complications with the cancer treatment he was receiving.
He was best known for his role as Gilligan, but he also played in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis before he got a starring role in Gilligan’s Island.
I was younger than 7 when I watched Dobie Gillis, and, even though I was a bit older for Gilligan’s Island, I can’t remember what I thought of the show. I know that I wouldn’t be able to watch it now. But at a time when we got only 2 or 3 channels here in Toronto, this show was one of kids’ better options.
It’s hard to think of people aging, because if someone had mentioned Bob Denver, I would have pictured him the same way as this picture.
I think 70 probably sneaks up on you the same way as 40 and 50 does, perhaps faster since time seems to go so quickly as you get older. Anyway, rest in peace and thanks for what you gave.
