Where Did I Go Wrong?
I suppose it was nice to be in my comfortable unemployed spot again today. Nothing to worry about. Sleeping in if I felt like it. I did apply for a few online things, but I don’t expect any luck with that, unfortunately.
My daughter was supposed to be here this weekend. And I say ‘supposed to be’ in the sense that I went to pick her up and then told her to stay at her dad’s place.
Here’s the story: The last weekend she was here, all of a sudden I couldn’t find my distance glasses, which I keep in my purse. I asked her if she’d seen them and she said, “No. Maybe they fell out of your purse.”
Well today I went to pick her up and got there early. The door was unlocked so I went in and said, “anybody home yet?” and nobody was. So I decided that, while I was killing time waiting for her to get home from school, I’d do the dishes that were there.
Instead, what I found when I walked into the living room…. you guessed it… my glasses case. But, the big but (hey, no references to me!) there were no glasses inside the case. So I started going through the hutch drawers, looking for my glasses, because now I knew for sure that she’d stolen them. I didn’t find the glasses, but I did find a lot of dirty dishes and drinking glasses that she’d hidden in the hutch.
She got home and I started screaming like a banshee at her. These are my prescription distance glasses; the titanium ones that cost me $400. Well you know damned well that I don’t have another $400 to buy new glasses now that I’m unemployed. I don’t even have $100 to buy new glasses.
I told her to find my glasses. And, if you can believe it, she had attitude about doing it.
Needless to say, she didn’t find them. I asked her if she’d taken them somewhere and she said no, and yet 20 minutes later she was saying that maybe she’d left them at school. After being caught in yet another lie, I told her that I was taking her to school to look in her locker for my glasses.
Luckily for us, the principal was leaving as we pulled in and he let us into the school so we went and searched her locker. Well the magnetic sunglasses that stick onto my glasses were there, but no glasses.
She had all kinds of shit in her locker, including clothes and winter coats and shoes. She didn’t want to take them (she didn’t have a bag) but I told her we were taking the laundry home.
We went back to her dad’s house and I gave her another ten minutes to find my glasses. She didn’t. So I told her that she was not coming back to my house until she found my glasses or told me where they were.
She is now at her dad’s place until I learn where my glasses are or are presented with them. I may even cancel her piano lessons, I’m just so sick of the thievery and the sneakiness.
I also found some of my reading glasses over at her house, and a necklace I’d recently bought thrown into a drawer in her room. There was also some make-up of mine sitting on a chair in the living room. Who knows WTF else of mine is over there?
The girl has never asked to borrow anything, Christ knows I probably would have let her use anything of mine she asked for. But instead, she’s stealing my things. She has glasses of her own – they’re not the same prescription as mine, so why is she stealing not only my prescription glasses, but my cheap shit dollar store reading glasses?
I am so mad I almost feel like I never want to see her again – and that’s my own daughter for Christ’s sake!
And on another note, speaking of kids, I asked my son if he had the $300 I lent him that he told me he’d pay back in June. I told him at the time that he could take 6 months to pay it back if he needed, but he said, “oh no, I can pay you back in June” – I think he said he was getting some kind of bonus from work.
He said that he didn’t have the money, he might have something in July, perhaps up to $100 that, over time, he might be able to pay me back $100 at a time.
Well, here I sit with absolutely no money coming in and I can’t even get back money I was nice enough to lend someone who needed it.
I don’t know what to make of this. What I do know is that I am no longer lending any money to anyone and if my daughter steps foot in this house again, I think I’ll lock up my possessions. I’ll have to watch that the TV doesn’t go missing. Fucking thief.
