2 Scoops of Raisins
in Kellogg’s Raisin Bran.
Right. That’s not the scoop, the scoop is the job scoop.
This morning I went for the second interview at the job up the street. I met with the husband, who seemed like a pretty miserable Russian guy, but throughout the interview, he tended to warm up a bit.
I thought that we might have hit it off, and he told me he’d call tonight or tomorrow to let me know.
So I went trudging off downtown to my dentist appointment. The dentist didn’t know what to make of the sometimes pain when eating and so he proceeded to file down one of the fillings a bit.
They had this fabulous electric toothbrush there for only $110, Oral B. Guaranteed to remove 97% plaque and make your teeth whiter within 21 days, just by brushing with it and the vibrations it emits, so I bought it. I’ve got a credit card.
Then I phoned Emmett to see if he was ready for lunch. Well, guess what? Emmett wasn’t at work, he was at home… he said he wasn’t feeling well this morning and called in sick. He also said that he meant to phone me to let me know, but I don’t know when he planned to do that since it was already noon when I called him to find out our lunch was off. Stood up. Little bastard.
So the receptionist, upon hearing this, told me that I was due for a cleaning. I asked if she had someone available to do it right then, and she did, so I also got my teeth cleaned. $215 on my credit card but they made sure to give me a whole bunch of free stuff since I have no insurance.
Big fucking woo. Now I’ve got enough floss to last me for months.
Anyway, yesterday I went to get my haircut at Centrepointe Mall. The woman was much cheaper than my Paul at $60, so I decided I’d do it in case I had to go for the other interview on Tuesday.
While I was there she told me there was a special on highlights… 6 foils for $20 so I went for it. Since my hair is pretty damned short still, even after months of growing it, she gave me more than 6, explaining that since my hair was so short she could give me more.
When I picked up my daughter tonight I was thinking, “Christ, she needs a haircut” and decided to take her over where I went and maybe she could get highlights too, since they were so cheap.
When I got there (the woman who did my hair wasn’t there) I asked if they still had the special and they said no. I tried to cajole them by saying, c’mon I just got my hair done yesterday, can’t you do it one more day? Then they asked who did it and told me that the special finished 2 weeks ago. Apparently I’ve now got Susan into trouble.
I tried to finagle something for $20 highlights for my daughter but they weren’t having it. They finally got to the lowest, which was 5 foils for $25, but after having paid only $20 for over 6, I was determined to get something for $20, not $25.
They wouldn’t do it, so I walked. They could have made $60 off me like yesterday, but since they wouldn’t deal, I figured my daughter would have to do without highlights and I’d take her to First Choice which is only $8.95 for a kid 12 and under’s haircut.
We went there and finagled. They told me that highlights started at $45. I asked if they’d be able to do just a few foils for $20 and they went for it.
So she got a haircut and (probably) more highlights than I got yesterday, all for $35 including tax and tip. Ha ha, Ray Daniel Salon & Spa. Geez, she looks just like her dad in this pic.
Don’t think I promote kids dyeing their hair, I don’t. But I figure the highlights are not as bad for them, and I let her have them once before and she’s been bugging me, so I thought, WTF?
When we finally got home, my honey had bought us some subs for dinner. Good thing too, since I forgot to eat today – I was a little faint-y other than all the Tim’s I was stuffing down my throat.
I checked my voicemail and there was a message from the job interview. It was the wife calling me – the one who wanted to hire me.
Her message said that her husband had chosen another candidate but thanked me for my time and wished me all the success in the world and thanks for the interest in their company, yada yada.
So I feel a little depressed about that, especially having spent $60 on my hair and $35 on my daughter’s and $210 at the dentist.
The good thing though is that I didn’t really want to have to live on that money… didn’t think I could, and I still have the job interview on Tuesday.
So once again, I’m still unemployed. The other job is also 5 minutes away from me, even closer than the job I didn’t get. I’ll cross my fingers.
